My first visit for the 2008-2009 school year was amazing! It was at Lincoln School in Newark, NY. I was in town slated to attend the 12th annual Rochester Children’s Book Festival, and the wonderful Jill Hausman, assistant librarian at Lincoln, was gracious enough to invite me to visit with her students. First of all, Jill is a very talented artist herself. As I walked to my presentation room I admired her beautiful depictions of my characters from The Saturday Escape on the school bulletin board. From then on I had a wonderful experience. The students had incredible imaginations, which made my presentations easy and a lot of fun! They were so well prepared it made my day run as smooth as picture book cover. Then….THE LUNCHEON!! My stomach has never been so pleasantly pleased by the vast array of delectably delicious dishes that were prepared just for my visit. Needless to say, I walked out of the lunchroom with a very happy look on my face. The entire day was just as satisfying, from the enthusiastic students to the friendly and well-prepared staff, I have to say my visit to Lincoln School was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. I know I made a difference when even as I was walking to my car, students were yelling out ideas they had come up with after attending my presentations. Lincoln School, your tops!mahoneyatlincoln
